Senior Coach Michael Voss acknowledged that 2010 has been a disappointing year but was optimistic about next season.
“We have got work to do and we are more than capable of finishing in the finals,” Voss said.
“To do that we require everybody to do it - it is going to take momentum built over a long period of time and that is what this day signifies.”
“As my old mentor [Leigh Matthews] said, one season never relates to another and that has never been truer. You always start at zero, every single team. It doesn’t matter what you come in like, it doesn’t matter what you leave like. And that’s where we sit currently.”
The full squad was back at training at Coorparoo with the exception of Senior players Jonathan Brown, Luke Power, Simon Black, Daniel Merrett, Jamie Charman, Matt Maguire and Amon Buchanan, who will return later this month.
Brendan Fevola trained away from the main group, concentrating on his rehab from the groin injury that sidelined him for the end of the season.
Voss was pleased with Fevola’s condition following his surgery in September.
“He’s fine, he is looking in fairly good condition,” Voss said.
“He’s been in rehab for a period of time and he’s had some treatment under his belt and he’s presented himself pretty well.”
The team was buoyed by the inclusion of the new Lions staff, including High Performance Manager Brett Burton, Senior Assistant Coach Gary O’Donnell and Assistant Coach Shane Woewodin.
When asked about the new competition the Lions face from the Gold Coast Suns, Voss said that his team is not afraid to put in the hard yards.
“If you want the excitement, go down the road. If you want the hard work, come here.”
