IT BUCKED the odds to beat Geelong and now Fremantle is keen to pull off another surprise - making the AFL finals.

The injury-hit Dockers notched one of the upsets of the season when they beat ladder leaders Geelong by 34 points in Perth on Saturday.

Fremantle was missing up to eight first-choice players in that game, and was forced to use ruckman Sean Darcy and midfielder David Mundy as its main two forward targets.

The result means Fremantle (9-10) is just a win and percentage adrift of eighth spot with three rounds remaining.

The Dockers will probably need to beat St Kilda (away), Essendon (home), and Port Adelaide (away) if they are to make the finals, meaning there is no room for error.

THE RUN HOME Who'll play off for September glory?

Defender Adam Cerra says the player group is still daring to dream of finals action.

"We still think the season's alive and finals hopes are still there," Cerra said ahead of Sunday's clash with St Kilda at Marvel Stadium.

"Our focus is bringing that consistent performance week in week out.

"Win the rest of the games of the season and it gives ourselves the best shot of the finals."

Fremantle's pressure was frenetic against Geelong - a trait that had been largely missing in the previous six matches as the club sunk to five losses.

Cerra said that lifting the intensity had been a big focus going into the Geelong clash.

"It sounds like an easy fix, but it takes a lot of concentration for the whole game to be able to do that," he said.

Skipper Nat Fyfe was inspirational against Geelong, tallying 11 clearances and two goals from 27 disposals.

"Every week we're amazed what he's able to do," Cerra said.

"His ability to fight for that contested ball and put everything on the line is remarkable."

Cerra has been used mostly in defence this season, but it appears his long-term future lies in the midfield.

The 19-year-old, who was taken with pick No.5 in the 2017 NAB AFL Draft, said he was happy to bide his time in other parts of the field until he was needed in the midfield.
