The teams have been released for this weekend’s NAB League Boys Round 2, which marks the first games for 2019 for six interstate teams.

New full-time NAB League Boys club the Tasmania Devils will play their first match of the season after a bye in Round 1, while the Brisbane Lions Academy, Gold Coast Suns Academy, GWS Giants Academy, Northern Territory and Sydney Swans Academy will make the first of their five appearances in the competition this year.

All six interstate teams will play off in a triple-header of clashes at Blacktown International Sportspark on Saturday. 

Meanwhile, there are several important inclusions across a range of Victorian clubs for Round 2.

The Calder Cannons have called on Mason Fletcher – the 200cm son of Essendon AFL great Dustin Fletcher – as key-defensive reinforcement for their meeting with the Oakleigh Chargers on Sunday, following Calder’s 109-point loss to the Sandringham Dragons in Round 1.

Melbourne AFL Category B rookie and former basketballer Austin Bradtke has been granted permission to play for the Dandenong Stingrays as an over-age player in 2019 and will line up against the Gippsland Power on Saturday as a 204cm ruck.

On Gippsland’s side, highly rated 2019 NAB AFL Draft prospect Caleb Serong will play his first match for the Power this season – likely to be one of only a handful of appearances in the NAB League Boys around his school football commitments with Geelong Grammar this year.

At the Western Jets, one co-captain could replace another for the team’s clash with the Eastern Ranges on Sunday, with Lucas Rocci named on an extended bench and Spencer Johnson the Jets’ only confirmed out to this point.

The GWV Rebels will see Izaac Grant take the field for the first time this season against the Geelong Falcons on Sunday, after the exciting forward booted seven goals in a loss to the Northern Knights in Round 9 last year as a bottom-ager.

The Oakleigh Chargers could unveil a name more synonymous with Australian cricket than football if Brayden Fleming makes his NAB League Boys debut against Calder on Sunday. The bottom-ager is the son of former Australian cricketer and well-known media personality Damien Fleming and might come into the team off an extended bench with Oakleigh co-captain Trent Bianco going out.
