Who's hanging up the boots? Keep track of 2017's retirements and delistings

WEST Coast rookie Fraser McInnes appears set to remain in blue and gold next season as the Eagles move to shore-up their big man stocks.

AFL.com.au understands the 24-year-old, who tied for East Perth's best and fairest last week, is in negotiations to sign a one-year contract extension.

West Coast has already lost some tall timber this off-season, with veteran Drew Petrie and journeyman Jonathan Giles hanging up the boots.

It also remains to be seen how star ruckman Nic Naitanui and sidekick Scott Lycett return next year after long-term injuries.

Naitanui missed the entire 2017 campaign after undergoing a knee reconstruction, while Lycett required two bouts of surgery on his dislocated shoulder, which restricted him to just one senior appearance.

McInnes played two AFL games this year, coming into the line-up in round eight against the Western Bulldogs to partner Nathan Vardy in the ruck.

The versatile 197cm big man impressed with his physicality against the Dogs as he laid five tackles and won 15 hit-outs in a hard-fought victory.

He was one of four players dropped after an embarrassing 61-point loss to Essendon the following round, making way for Petrie's long-awaited return from a broken hand.

The agile ruck-forward enjoyed a strong campaign at WAFL level, averaging 16 disposals and almost 12 hit-outs, while booting 13 goals in his 18 games.

Next season shapes as an important year, though, with McInnes so far managing 11 senior games since he was recruited from Perth via pick 28 in the 2011 NAB AFL Draft.

He was delisted at the end of last year but the Eagles gave him another shot in the rookie draft.

If he is retained on the rookie list next year he will be eligible to play from round one under rule changes agreed to in the last AFL Players' Collective Bargaining Agreement.

West Coast has already undergone a raft of changes to an experienced playing group this off-season, with Matt Priddis, Sam Mitchell and Sam Butler retiring.

Irish speedster Paddy Brophy went home mid-year and luckless forward Simon Tunbridge has been delisted.

The Eagles have several list management decisions still to make, including whether to offer experienced defender Sharrod Wellingham, goalsneak Josh Hill and mobile tall Tom Lamb new deals.
