A SETBACK at training on Tuesday will delay Collingwood speedster Travis Varcoe's return from a hamstring injury by a fortnight.

The Magpies have decided to extend his recovery to eliminate any risk when he returns.

Collingwood's football manager Geoff Walsh told collingwoodfc.com.au it was uncertain exactly when the 29-year-old will return.

"We will slow down the recovery in his rehab process just to ensure we get a really clean recovery," Walsh said.

"It will set him back a couple of weeks. We will assess that, probably, the week after next on how quickly he is improving but we will ensure that we get a clean recovery before we give him the all-clear."

Varcoe missed round two with suspension but was in good form against Geelong in round six before injuring his hamstring close to half-time.

Meanwhile inconsistent forward Jesse White will also miss the next three to four weeks after hurting his hamstring in the VFL on Saturday.

It adds to the injury woes for the Magpies who have lost Ben Reid for the next month at least because of a quad injury.

Reid hurt the leg kicking a long goal late in the game against Greater Western Sydney after starting forward for the first time this season.

"We will see how that goes, but it could be four weeks plus. We will treat that symptomatically as we get through the journey of the rehab period," Walsh said.

The Magpies are hopeful Adam Treloar (ankle) and Tim Broomhead (concussion) will be available, however both face fitness tests ahead of the game against Hawthorn.
