THE AFL is pleased to confirm Simon Black has joined the AFL All-Australian selection panel for 2026.

The AFL All-Australian committee selects the AFL All-Australian squad and team, the 2026 Virgin Mark of the Year, the 2026 Coles AFL Goal of the Year, and the Ron Evans medal for the 2026 Telstra AFL Rising Star Award.

Black joins Andrew Dillon (Chair), Eddie Betts, Jude Bolton, Abbey Holmes, Glen Jakovich, Laura Kane, David Mundy, Joel Selwood and Greg Swann on the All-Australian panel.

The games record holder for the Brisbane Lions, Black played 322 matches between 1998 and 2013. Black is a three-time All-Australian (2001, 2002, 2004) and a three-time club best and fairest winner.

A three-time premiership player (2001, 2002, 2003), a Brownlow medallist (2002) and a Norm Smith medallist (2003), Black is one of six people to have collected the set of Premiership, Norm Smith and Brownlow medals during their careers (Greg Williams, James Hird, Chris Judd, Jimmy Bartel and Dustin Martin the others).

Following his playing career, Black was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 2020.

AFL Executive General Manager of Football Performance Greg Swann congratulated Black on his appointment.

"After an outstanding playing career, Simon Black is one of the most respected figures in the game.

"Simon's experience at the elite level, combined with his knowledge and insight into the modern game, will make him a valuable addition to the panel as it selects the best-performed players of the 2026 AFL season."
