A highly accomplished all round footballer as well as a deadly kick at full forward, Rex ‘Rexie’ Johns played 134 games for Port Adelaide in ten seasons between 1954 and 1963.

In a decade of dour defences, lonely full forwards, and low scores, Rexie Johns booted a stunning 451 goals at a 3.37 goals per game average

Topping Port Adelaide's goal kicking list on six occasions, and the SANFL's on four, his contribution simply cannot be underestimated whether representing the Club or his State - his five interstate games for South Australia netted him an impressive 17 goals.

A member of Port Adelaide premiership teams in 1956, 1957, 1958 and 1962, Johns was a superb and stylish kick who boasted the sort of effortless elegance and poise that only ever seems to characterise left footers.

Awarded life membership of Port Adelaide upon his retirement in 1963, Rexie Johns was a nomination for full forward for the Club’s ‘Greatest Team of the Greatest Club, alongside other luminaries such as Tim Evans (who was awarded the position), Frank Hansen, and Scott Hodges.

Rexie Johns is remembered by his family and all at the Club.
