Claye Beams was again prominent for Brisbane in its 61-point win over Sydney, finishing with 31 disposals, 10 marks, seven tackles, six clearances, six inside 50s and a goal.

Ben Keays (31 possessions, eight clearances, seven tackles, three inside 50s and a goal) and Zac Bailey (24 touches, four inside 50s, three tackles and three goals) also stood out for the winners.

Jacob Allison (24 possessions, nine marks), Corey Lyons (23 disposals and two goals), Ryan Lester (22 touches and a goal) and Jack Frost (17 disposals, nine marks) were also among the Lions' best.

This weekend: Casey Demons v Northern Blues - Saturday, August 4, 1pm, Casey Fields

Young forward Patrick Kerr finished with two goals from 11 disposals as the Northern Blues managed just five majors in a heavy loss to Casey.

In positive news, Harrison Macreadie got through his second game back off a long-term hamstring problem, while Angus Schumacher (11 disposals, seven contested) made the most of extra midfield time.

Nick Graham and Sam Kerridge were late withdrawals prior to the match.

Sam McLarty could be in the mix to make his debut against Brisbane on Saturday night, after his two-goal effort against Box Hill.

McLarty was treated for an ankle problem at three-quarter time, but returned to finish the game.

Veteran Jarryd Blair (one goal) was again among the best for the Pies, while James Aish got through his third game back from a PCL injury.

Box Hill won 12.7 (79) to 9.18 (72).

This weekend: Port Melbourne v Essendon - Saturday, August 4, 2pm, Stannards Stadium

Jayden Laverde and Dylan Clarke both turned in strong performances for Essendon in its narrow loss at Port Melbourne.

Laverde collected 28 touches, laid five tackles and kicked a goal, while Clarke gathered 30 possessions and had nine tackles.

Forgotten small forward Josh Green kicked two goals and gathered 14 possessions, Kobe Mutch won 23 disposals and rookie Trent Mynott had 22 disposals and kicked a goal.

The Bombers lost a thriller 11.11 (77) to 12.10 (82).

This weekend: Peel Thunder v East Perth - Saturday, August 4, 2.15pm, Bendigo Bank Stadium

Dumped for Sunday's Derby with West Coast, Tommy Sheridan played as though he had a point to prove.

Sheridan collected 39 disposals, laid 10 tackles and kicked two goals as Peel ran out 14.8 (92) to 10.7 (67) winners.

Danyle Pearce's class was evident, the veteran finishing with 31 touches and a goal.

Rookie Stefan Giro, who was also omitted following the big loss to Hawthorn, responded with 27 possessions and two goals, and ruckman Luke Strnadica, who is also on the rookie list, won 47 hit-outs.

This weekend: Geelong v Richmond - Saturday, August 4, 2.10pm, GMHBA Stadium

First-year midfielder Charlie Constable racked up a game-high 31 disposals to help lead Geelong to a comfortable 52-point victory over Richmond.

Ruckman Zac Smith was influential across the contest with the big man finishing with 17 disposals, 50 hit-outs and 10 clearances.

Wylie Buzza booted three goals, hauled in nine marks and had 22 disposals while young defender Zach Guthrie (16 touches) was also named in the best.

James Parsons (20) and Jordan Murdoch (19) were others to have an impact.

This weekend: Box Hill Hawks v Collingwood - Sunday, August 5, 2pm, Box Hill City Oval

Will Langford kicked two goals in Box Hill's seven-point win over Collingwood, but failed to finish the game after suffering a leg injury.

Jonathan O'Rourke (29 possessions), James Cousins (25) and David Mirra (23) all won plenty of the ball, while ruckman Marc Pittonet was pivotal.

This weekend: Casey Demons v Northern Blues - Saturday, August 4, 1pm, Casey Fields

Melbourne big man Cameron Pedersen amassed 31 disposals and kicked a goal in Casey's 11th straight victory.

The Demons were dominant in a 91-point victory with Sam Weideman kicking two goals.

Josh Wagner was another key player in the Demons' win.

State league affiliate: North Melbourne (VFL)
This weekend: North Melbourne v Williamstown - Saturday, August 4, 2pm, Avalon Airport Oval

Nick Larkey bagged five of the Kangaroos' 10 goals, as North went down by 63 points to Williamstown.

Larkey has been on the fringe of AFL selection and did his chances of a recall no harm with a strong performance.

Youngsters Daniel Nielson, Luke Davies-Uniacke and Oscar Junker were among North's best players.

This weekend: West Adelaide v Port Adelaide - Saturday, August 4, 1.10pm, City Mazda Stadium

Sam Gray, who was returning from a week out with an ankle injury, racked up 13 disposals in the first term, before finishing the match with 40 (and 13 marks).

Jack Trengove was also prolific for the Magpies, the injury-prone midfielder compiling 38 possessions.

Rookie-listed on-baller Will Snelling was outstanding, finishing with 37 touches, seven tackles and three goals.

Jimmy Toumpas was a late withdrawal due to a wrist injury.

Port Adelaide had no answers for West Adelaide forward Jono Beech, whose seven goals guided the Bloods to a 26-point win.

Bachar Houli returned from a calf strain in strong fashion, gathering 15 disposals in the first half before being sitting out after the major break.

Houli had nine touches in the first quarter alone, with his influence particularly impactful forward of centre.

Anthony Miles collected 25 disposals, laid five tackles and had six inside 50s in Richmond's 52-point loss to the Cats.

Young tall Noah Balta (20 disposals) continued to impress, while Corey Ellis and Patrick Naish gathered 17 touches apiece.

Darcy Cameron and Dean Towers led the way for the Swans, who were no match for Brisbane.

Cameron racked up 28 touches, won 48 hit-outs, took 13 marks and kicked two goals, while Towers amassed 23 possessions, had six clearances, six inside 50s and also slotted two majors.

Rookies James Bell (15 disposals, seven tackles and a goal) and Jake Brown (22 touches and a goal) both showed encouraging signs.

This weekend: Peel Thunder v East Perth - Saturday, August 4, 2.15pm, Bendigo Bank Stadium

Axed midfielder Dom Sheed battled valiantly for the Royals, who were outclassed by the Thunder, going down by 25 points.

Sheed put his hand up for a trip to Adelaide to take on Port on Saturday, finishing with 34 disposals and two goals.

Luke Partington (20 touches and three goals) again impressed, while Jake Waterman, who was sent back to the WAFL, had 14 possessions and kicked a goal.

Kurt Mutimer (22 disposals), Brendon Ah Chee (21) and rookie Francis Watson (19) all made valuable contributions.

This weekend: Footscray v Frankston - Saturday, August 4, 2pm, VU Whitten Oval 

Shane Biggs was central to the Bulldogs' 42-point win over Frankston, gathering 22 disposals and taking five marks in a best afield display.

Will Hayes (24 disposals, three tackles) and Mitch Honeychurch (15 disposals, three tackles) worked hard all over the ground, while Fletcher Roberts (16 disposals and four marks) was solid down back.

Lewis Young (17 touches) was also influential in the Dogs' win, while Tim English had 36 hit-outs.
