HE BURST on to the AFL landscape as a dynamic attacking weapon, but Port Adelaide young gun Connor Rozee is eager to continue the next step in his development as a pacy midfielder.

Rozee, 19, enjoyed an outstanding debut season this year for the Power, the fifth overall pick in the 2018 NAB AFL Draft playing all 22 games and finishing as the club's leading goalkicker.

Rozee was also fourth in the best and fairest and runner-up to Carlton's Sam Walsh in the NAB AFL Rising Star award.

But after showcasing his skill as a dangerous half-forward, Rozee will use this pre-season to help prepare for a shift into an onball role.

"Hopefully as the year progresses I can push into the midfield a little bit more," Rozee told reporters on Monday.

"Endurance is probably the main thing I want to improve, especially if I'm looking to move into the midfield.

"Hopefully keep building that and maybe put on a few more kilos as well will help me move into the midfield."

Rozee said he can bring a different element to a Power midfield that features contested ball-winners Ollie Wines, Tom Rockliff and Sam Powell-Pepper, alongside reigning best and fairest Travis Boak.

"I'm a little bit different body shape to most of those boys, they've probably got 15 or 20 kilos on me, so what I bring differently is a bit of leg speed and run and carry with the ball," Rozee said.

"Most of those boys are really good with their contested football and hopefully I can bring a bit of outside speed and ball use to the midfield."

KEY DATES What's coming up next in the off-season?

Rozee was one of nine Power youngsters, along with Zak Butters, Xavier Duursma, Powell-Pepper, Dan Houston, Riley Bonner, Riley Grundy, Jake Patmore and Tobin Cox, who began pre-season training at Alberton Oval on Monday.

Four-time All-Australian Robbie Gray and experienced utility Jack Watts, who is on the comeback trail from a badly broken leg, were also on the track.

Another notable face was Taj Schofield, a highly rated 17-year-old prospect eligible to be taken as a father-son selection in next year's draft.

Schofield is the son of midfield coach Jarrad, who played 131 games for the Power, and 206 in total in his AFL career, before entering the coaching ranks.

Power players who were involved in the club's SANFL finals campaign will return to training with the rest of the squad on November 18.
