TICKETS are now on sale for Port Adelaide’s Round 11 clash against St Kilda in Shanghai.

For the fourth consecutive year, the Power will host a Toyota AFL Premiership season match in China, this time against St Kilda on Sunday May 31, 2020.

The venue at Jiangwan Stadium in Shanghai’s Yangpu District has been realigned to enhance the spectator experience after feedback following the previous three games there.

Since expanding the game into China in 2017, Australian football has become a favourite amongst Chinese fans, with more than 5.7 million people tuning in to watch the 2019 Toyota AFL Grand Final.

Over 15,000 Chinese locals have attended the Shanghai match in the last three years, while a further four million people watched the 2019 game.

The AFL’s commitment to growing the connections between Australia and China was reinforced earlier this year, with the establishment of an AFL China office in Shanghai and the appointment of its first China-based General Manager and Business Development Manager.

AFL General Manager of China, David Stevenson, said that the 2020 Shanghai game would be a great opportunity for all football fans to enjoy a unique cultural experience whilst watching their favourite sport.

“The 2020 Shanghai game provides a wonderful opportunity for all football fans to immerse themselves in the traditional Chinese culture and experience watching an AFL match in one of China’s most cosmopolitan cities,” Mr Stevenson said.

“The annual match is more than just playing a game for premiership points on foreign soil, it’s about expanding the game to new audiences both here and abroad, which is key for the progression of our game.

“The match itself is like nothing our fans in Australia would have experienced before, so it’s a wonderful opportunity for Australian-based football fans to travel to China and experience the excitement for themselves.”

Tickets to the Shanghai 2020 match go on sale today, Monday December 2, at 3:00pm (ACDT) and 3:30pm (AEDST), click here for more details.
