Champion West Coast Eagles midfielder Chris Judd was tonight elevated further up the ranks of the greatest players ever to represent the club when he won the 2006 Club Champion Award. The dynamic midfielder won his second club champion award and in the process continued a remarkable sequence which has seen him finish no worse than third in the award in his five seasons of senior football. In 2002 he was third to Ben Cousins and Daniel Kerr, a year later he was runner-up to Cousins, in 2004 he won the mantle and last year he was again runner-up to Cousins. The 2004 Brownlow medallist won the award from all-Australian defender Darren Glass, Cousins, Tyson Stenglein and Adam Selwood.Judd, the club's second premiership captain, enjoyed another stellar season and added to his already impressive collection of individual and team honours.Glass had an exceptional season at full-back where he was the cornerstone of an outstanding defensive unit while Cousins also maintained his imposing record in the award.Cousins shares the record with Glen Jakovich as a four-time winner and he has been outside the top four only once in the last eight seasons - in 2004 when injury interrupted his season.Stenglein, who joined the club from Adelaide last season, and Selwood, were both versatile and resilient, each of them playing in all 26 matches during the season. Whether playing in the midfield, in defence or even forward they were strong and consistent contributors. In other awards, Judd won the player of the finals award, Jaymie Graham was rookie of the year and Dean Cox won best clubman.Life memberships were also awarded to 1994 premiership player Ryan Turnbull, 1992 premiership hero Craig Turley, star defender David Wirrpanda and long-serving trainer David Jones. While Turnbull and Turley did not qualify under the 150-game criteria set for players, they were recognised for their outstanding contributions to the game. Both were included in a 32-man squad from which Team 20 was selected, but narrowly missed positions in the team.Wirrpanda qualified for life membership by playing his 150th game this season while Jones has been a trainer with the club since inception.CLUB CHAMPION TOP 101.
