Spelly: Hi Matt, welcome to the chat site. What do you think are your greatest strengths and weaknesses as an AFL footballer?

Matt Ferguson: I think my overhead marking is a strength, maybe long kicking, and ability to play both ends. Weakness ... I could definitely get better at endurance.

mattys_gal: Hey Matt, I saw you playing for Springvale on Sunday, you’re playing well, when do you think you'll be in the seniors?

Matt Ferguson: I suppose I’ve just got to keep performing for Springvale and wait for a spot to open up.

Milne: What was your first AFL game like?

Matt Ferguson: It was about two weeks ago down in Tassie - probably the greatest day of my life - an awesome experience to run out with guys like Harvey and Riewoldt.

Matts-aunt-pat: Hey Matt ... hi from Vegas!

Matt Ferguson: G'day, how's it going, sorry I missed your going away party!

Milne: Who has been your biggest influence so far?

Matt Ferguson: Tough question - probably my old man.

LoZziE: Do you watch ‘Saint Scared’?

Matt Ferguson: Yeah, I do ... very funny show!

danni_luvs_riewoldt: Hey Matt, do you have a girlfriend?

Matt Ferguson: Not at the moment.

Guest22875: Matt, what is it like playing for the Saints?

Matt Ferguson: I went for the Saints as a kid, so it was great to be drafted ... I’m very fortunate and I’m enjoying it very much.

Guest22875: What is your nickname?

Matt Ferguson: Pretty simple - most guys just call me Ferg.

Ferg_Burger: How was your experience of your first AFL game? Faster than Springy?

Matt Ferguson: Yes, definitely ... the game runs a lot faster and there's no room for error, it took me a while to get used to it. I can’t wait to get back out there again.

Milne: What club/s did you play junior footy for?

Matt Ferguson: All my junior footy for Heyfield in Gippsland and Under 18’s for Gippsland Power.

LoZziE: What is your favourite position?

Matt Ferguson: Definitely forward line, centre half forward or forward flank.

TC: Matt, what type of player would you describe yourself as?

Matt Ferguson: I suppose a strong marking forward who can play small or tall.

Milne: Are you satisfied with GT's coaching thus far?

Matt Ferguson: He's a good coach, he's given me every chance to play AFL footy, he's got really good people skills.

Guest22875: Do you have any brothers or sisters?

Matt Ferguson: Two older brothers, a younger brother and a younger sister.

lenny_rox: Hey Matt, what do you find is the hardest thing about playing AFL?

Matt Ferguson: Probably just the pressure to perform week in, week out.

LoZziE: What is your favourite TV show?

Matt Ferguson: Definitely ‘The Simpsons’.

TC: How do you feel about lining up for goal? Are you confident? That Tassie shot for goal was ordinary!

Matt Ferguson: We do plenty of work on goal kicking at training, so I shouldn't have any reason to feel nervous in front of goal.

Romy: Hi Matt, who are the people you look up to at the Club?

Matt Ferguson: Robert Harvey - just for his work rate, Aaron Hamill and Nick Riewoldt for their leadership skills, and Lenny Hayes.

verg: What goals have you set yourself, both on and off the field?

Matt Ferguson: On-field - just to push to play as much senior footy as possible. Off-field - to develop and mature as a person and a player.

saintly_chick32: What do you like to do in your free time?

Matt Ferguson: We don't get a whole lot of free time, but I’m into cars and I just like to relax and get down to the beach, and swing the golf club every now and again!

mattys_gal: Do you know what Hotel the boys will be staying at in Sydney? (I’m going up and I was just wondering if we're at the same one!)

Matt Ferguson: I wouldn't have a clue ... sorry.

saintsgal: Was it disappointing playing your first game in Tassie and not in Melbourne?

Matt Ferguson: I think it took the pressure off a little bit, I would have been more nervous at a ground like Telstra Dome or the MCG.

Matts-aunt-pat: What injury did you get last week and will it be okay?

Matt Ferguson: I just rolled my ankle, but hopefully it will be okay to play this week against Bendigo. Thanks Aunt Pat!

saintsgal: What sort of music are you in to?

Matt Ferguson: A bit of everything, a wide variety, love my golden oldies!

Guest22875: Do you live with your parents or with team-mates?

Matt Ferguson: I’m boarding with a family who have had a few players living with them like Lenny Hayes.

TC: Do you feel that Montagna, Dal Santo and Ball should get a senior game this weekend?

Matt Ferguson: All three of them will push for selection, they have all been playing solid footy and deserve a chance, especially Leigh Montagna.

Guest22875: As a kid, who was your favourite Saint?

Matt Ferguson: Robert Harvey was always my idol.

Guest22875: Do you think we can win against the Bombers?

Matt Ferguson: It's definitely a winnable game for us, we got over them in the pre-season competition and we're playing better footy now.

Guest22875: What is the atmosphere at the Club like at the moment?

Matt Ferguson: It's always an exciting atmosphere down at St Kilda with all the talent coming through.

Matts-aunt-pat: Hey Matt, take best of care, gotta go, flying to Mexico at 6:00am!

Matt Ferguson: Good luck, safe traveling! Stay out of the casinos!

LoZziE: Do you think Aaron Hamill should stay Captain?

Matt Ferguson: I support the rotation policy - it gives other guys a good chance to develop their leadership skills.

saintly_chick32: What do you normally do before a game?

Matt Ferguson: There's nothing abnormal that I do for preparation, I like to listen to a bit of music on the way to the game and just try to relax.

mattys_gal: Do you have a job or go to university?

Matt Ferguson: I’m doing a bit of work outside footy with a building company learning the carpentry trade.

Guest22875: Matt, do you see yourself as a leader, a game winner or a hard working clubman?

Matt Ferguson: Tough question! I’d like to think I’ll do a bit of all of them over the years.

Matt Ferguson: Thanks for the chat guys ... and get to Telstra Dome on Friday night!
