NORTH Melbourne champion Brent Harvey said Sunday's win was more important than his milestone as he paid tribute to the Kangaroos' younger players.

Harvey celebrated his 300th AFL game with a memorable and rare win over West Coast by 16 points at Subiaco Oval.

"I know I played a milestone but it's another game really and I will look back at the end of my career and it will be fantastic to join the 300 club, but this was about the four points," Harvey said.

"If we are going to be a good team we have to win in every part of Australia. It's always tough to come over here to have a win and to our boys' credit their effort was sensational.

"Leigh Adams got knocked out twice, it was absolutely unbelievable."

Even though there was no finals spot to play for at Subiaco on Sunday, there was a strong desire from all the North Melbourne players to perform strongly and Harvey was impressed with the band of youngsters that led the way.

"We are all professional enough to understand that just because we can't make finals we aren’t going to go out there and play second-rate football," Harvey said. "Every single time we go out it's a new challenge and we look forward to it.

"(Ryan) Bastinac, (Ben) Cunnington, Sam Wright and these types of guys just go out there and are so eager, and want to learn.

"It's my job as the captain to pass on my knowledge and teach them how to prepare like a professional footballer.

"If I can help one of these blokes out marginally I reckon I've done a good job because going forward it's exciting."

Harvey is far from thinking about retirement while his form is so good.

The skipper says he is still enjoying his football and feels like the team is not far away from playing finals football.

"I believe we can win every game, which means I think we can win the flag next year," Harvey said. "Obviously a lot of things would have to happen for us to win games, and that's why we have a new coach, a great coaching staff and a great football club."
