WEST Coast coach John Worsfold has welcomed the possibility of Dean Laidley joining his star-studded football department, suggesting a spot could be manufactured to accommodate him.
Laidley, a former teammate of Worsfold's, has expressed a desire to continue working in football, and a move to the Eagles would also be a move home for the West Australian.
Worsfold oversaw a number of big name football appointments at the end of 2008, but didn’t rule out the club chasing Laidley as well.
"You always look at personnel that could potentially make your place better," Worsfold said from Subiaco Oval on Tuesday.
"If I said there was a vacant spot right there now, no, there's not. But that can be manufactured at times.
"I know Dean pretty well – I've played with him and obviously coached against him.
"He's a ripper bloke, he's hard as nails and he's committed. He's done a very good job with all the things he's done."
Former Melbourne coach Neale Daniher joined West Coast at the end of 2008 as football manager, while former Collingwood captain Scott Burns came on board as midfield coach.
Highly-rated assistant Phil Walsh left Port Adelaide for the strategy and innovations portfolio and former Eagle Daniel Metropolis took over as defensive coach.
There won’t be any movement in Worsfold's own position, however, with the premiership coach poised to extend his tenure.
Worsfold said time and money were not issues with the offer tabled to him last Thursday and he was now sorting through the minor details.
"Probably the next bit of news will be when we sign, so I don't really need to update the fact that I'm still working on it," he said.
"I presented my version of it to the club yesterday and I'll meet with Nizzy (West Coast chief executive Trevor Nisbett) later today (Tuesday)."
