Sydneyswans.com.au caught up with the girlfriend of former Adelaide Crow Marty Mattner at the annual “Ladies’ Lunch”, held last week at the Four Seasons Hotel…

While moving states to pursue your AFL career is a big transition for any player to make, it’s an equally big move for the partners of players, who have to adjust to a new life. For Chelsea Pomfret, girlfriend of Martin Mattner, the move from Adelaide to the Harbour City wasn’t easy but she’s certainly adapted to the Sydney way of life.

“It wasn’t a hard decision to make to go with him,” Chelsea said.

“I didn’t really think about it but when the day actually came to go and the plane lifted off the ground there were tears with the realisation of it all. Knowing Marty was at the other end waiting for me (in Sydney) made it easy.”

Having his girlfriend of six years make the move with him has certainly helped Mattner settle into his new home. He said that it’s not only him who has embraced the Sydney Swans’ culture.

“She’s really enjoying herself now and she’s made really good friends with the girls at the footy club,” he said.

Chelsea, who works in marketing for ‘Traffik’, enjoys Swans’ events which involve the wives and girlfriends. She admitted that functions like the “Swans Ladies’ Lunch”, which was held last Thursday, helps compensate for the occasional mood swings experienced around game time by her other half.

“From about Thursday he tends to get really focused but he’s pretty good generally. Let’s just say, I know the days I have to leave, and I know the days where I can stay at home,” she laughed.

Chelsea joined the partners of other Swans players at the Ladies Lunch last week, including Sarah Barry, Mara Berbakov (partner of Assistant Coach Peter Berbakov), Lynette Carroll (partner of Jude Bolton), Sheree Everitt, Amy Fosdike, Kath Mathews, Nicole Noonan (partner of Tadhg Kennelly), Tara O'Keefe, Emma Orr (partner of Michael O'Loughlin) and Tami Roos.

Along with the other guests, the ladies enjoyed the opportunity to have their nails done or get a quick massage, in between the excellent lunch, and fun and quirky on-stage interviews.
