Sydney Swans’ chairman Richard Colless hosted the Club’s “ambassadors’’ at the annual Christmas gathering this week.
The Ambassadors program involves a number of high profile Australians who share a love for the Swans, and do their best to spread the word on the benefits of supporting their favourite team.
Coach John Longmire and players including Rhyce Shaw, Sam Reid, Lewis Roberts-Thomson, Mark Seaby and Sam Reid mingled with guests such as playwright David Williamson, television personalities Tom Williams and Natalie Barr, and Australian netballer Cath Cox.
The Ambassadors come from a wide spectrum of society including politics, sport and entertainment and do a wonderful job helping to raise the profile of the Sydney Swans.
Defender Ted Richards hosted the event and interviewed young players Parker and Reid, who were in good form with the microphone.
Richards asked both boys who they thought would be most improved in 2012.
Reid politely answered that he thought Gary Rohan would come on in leaps and bounds, but Parker’s answer brought a big laugh. “I’m backing myself!’’, said Parker.
And he might be right too after a season where he surprised many by slotting into the midfield and playing 13 games in his debut season.
No doubt the Ambassadors will be watching Luke closely in 2012 to see if he lives up to his own hype!
