Dorothy Taylor is as passionate St Kilda supporter you will ever meet. Aged 91, Dot has been cheering on her beloved Saints for the past 66 years and attended the Club’s only Premiership victory in 1966. Dot currently resides at St. Pauls Court Hostel alongside Ken Walker, St Kilda’s oldest living Hall of Fame member. Dot was kind enough to sit down with saints.com.au to have a chat about everything St Kilda.
STKFC: So Dot, how long have you been supporting the Saints?
DOT: Well I went to the game in 1966 and I was supporting them before that, so a very long time.
STKFC: So you saw Doc Baldock play, what did you think of him?
DOT: He was a good player then and always was.
STKFC: Who were your favourite players around the ’66 Grand Final time?
DOT: Ian Stewart, Darrel Baldock, Carl Dietrich and Cowboy Neale.
STKFC: How was it to have Nick Riewoldt and some of the other Saints players visit you last week as part of AFL Community Camp?
DOT: Oh, I was beside myself. I got to hold him by the arm and give him a peck on the cheek…They are wonderful boys.
STKFC: How do you think the boys will go this year?
DOT: Good, they are going to win! I watched the last two games [Grand Finals] and oh dear, to see them have to play again, poor darlings they must have been so worn out. They gave their all.
STKFC: Who is your favourite current player?
DOT: Riewoldt, Nick of course and then Lenny Hayes, he’s fantastic. And I like Goddard as well, he’s good at getting the ball.
STKFC: Have you been down to the new Linen House Facility at Frankston?
DOT: Yes I have. I went down and watched training. They were marking very well.
And on living at St Pauls Court Hostel where St Kilda’s oldest living Hall of Fame member Ken Walker also resides.
DOT: He’s wonderful. I see him everyday. I have a funny story about Ken.
I was down [at Linen House Centre] standing by the fence watching training and the woman standing next to me said “my mother watched Ken when he was a boy.” I told her he’s here, so I beckoned Ken over to me and I introduced them. She said “wait til I get home and tell my mother, I shook hands with Ken Walker today.” They took a photo and they did everything. They thought he was fantastic.
