Freo released the out-of-contract Warnock and passed on pick 69, in return for picks 24, 56 and 72 in November's NAB AFL Draft.
Football operations manager Chris Bond said the club was happy with its position following the deal, as it has now secured a raft of higher draft picks.
“As a result of discussions over the past five days, a short list of four clubs expressed interest in Robert, with final talks focusing on Melbourne and Carlton,” Bond said.
“Initially, Carlton was only prepared to offer pick 24 for Robert. That was not acceptable and the Fremantle Football Club is very pleased to have secured both pick 24 and another valued selection at pick 56.
“As a result, Fremantle will have six picks at 56 and under in the [draft], which puts the club in a great position to rejuvenate our playing list.”
Fremantle now holds picks 3, 21, 24, 37, 53 and 56.
Bond said it would be the first the first time since 2003 that Fremantle would have three selections at 24 and under in the draft.
“This is particularly significant because the 2008 National Draft will be the last uncompromised draft for some time, given the concessions granted to the new Gold Coast team and the likely introduction of a West Sydney team in the future,” he said.
Bond said that Fremantle had attempted to secure a trade for Josh Carr to Port Adelaide but, unfortunately, Port was not willing to trade.
