Darebin’s hopes of breaking through for its first win of the rebel VFLW season have received a boost with two important Western Bulldogs players set to miss the game at ETU Stadium on Sunday.

The Bulldogs have lost the experienced Kate McCarthy to a wrist injury and young talent Imahra Cameron to an ankle problem for the clash, while St Kevin’s VAFA player Pamela Amber will get a chance to debut and Ainslie’s Olivia Fogarty will also play her first VFLW game.

The Falcons did also take a hit, however, with Emma Mackay suspended for a week for striking Geelong’s Cheryl de Groot in the third quarter of last week’s game, with Trinity Mills coming in among three changes.

Port Melbourne’s Kate Adams is unlikely to play again this year unless the Borough makes the finals after being ruled out for five weeks with a wrist injury ahead of their second rivalry showdown with Williamstown at ETU Stadium on Saturday.

But that is all the bad news for the home team, with tough nut Nayely Borg to line up for the first time this season after overcoming a hip injury, while star midfield Eliza Morrison is also back in the team.

The Seagulls’ news is not as good with Sydney Swans pair Bridie Kennedy and Aleisha Newman being rested and gun ball winner Jasmine Kawa suffering a knee injury, although Eliza Straford is a good replacement.

Both teams have a debutant, with Port unveiling Murray Bushranger Kristy Whitehead and the Seagulls naming former Kangaroo Rachael Burton.

Essendon’s hopes of beating Geelong for a sixth-successive VFLW win have been ravaged with seven AFLW players being rested for Saturday’s clash at NEC Hangar.

The Bombers will be without Amelia Radford, Dani Marshall, Georgia Clarke, Paige Scott, Steph Wales, Elyse Gamble and Sophie van de Heuvel.

Premiership player Kendra Heil will returns, with Calder Cannons duo Maddison Ford and Sarah Grunden winning debuts and Bendigo Pioneer Scarlett Orritt earning her first game of the year.

The ladder-leading Cats have gone the other way, boosting their team with the inclusions of midfielder Charlotte Simpson, forwards Sachi DeGiacomi and Mel Bragg, Renee Garing and AFLW young gun Brooke Plummer, but they have lost Sophie O’Dea with a finger injury, likely for the rest of the season.

Former Brisbane Lions’ AFLW player Gabby Collingwood will play her first game since 2020 in Box Hill Hawks’ big game against Carlton at Box Hill City Oval on Saturday.

Collingwood played 32 AFLW games for the Lions but has since had two knee reconstructions, joining the Hawks at the start of this season as she embarks on the comeback trail.

Nadia von Bertouch and Sarah Humm also come back in for the Hawks, who have made five forced changes, the biggest of which is Jess Trend with a sore achilles.

Carlton loses three AFLW players in Gabby Pound, Marianna Anthony and Keely Sherar, plus Mia Cowan for four weeks with a bone stress reaction.

Collegians VAFA player Therese McCafferty will make her VFLW debut at the age of 34 in Collingwood’s match of the round against Southern Saints at Victoria Park on Saturday, with the Magpies also to unveil mid-season signing Caitlin Sargent from Essendon’s AFLW team.

The Saints have recalled Grace Hodder and Bella Enno, with the experienced Bec Neaves being left out of the team.

Casey Demons have lost Mel Hogg to illness and Georgina Fowler and Casey Sherriff to a rest for their must-win game against North Melbourne at Casey Fields, with former Collingwood player Gemma Proy to play her first VFLW game since 2019 and Marla Neal, Eloise O’Connor and Belinda Woolcock among those coming in.

Recruits Madisen Maguire (Geelong) and Charli Granville (Hawthorn) will play their first games for the Kangaroos, who will be without the unavailable Reni Hicks.

All matches in the 2023 Smithy’s VFL and rebel VFLW seasons will be live streamed free via the AFL website and AFL Live Official App.
