PETER Carey didn't stand on anyone's shoulders, and he wasn't running with the flight of the ball, but his mark in Fremantle's round 15 clash against Richmond in 1999 remains one of the game's legendary moments.

Wearing No.8, Carey was umpiring his 299th match when he marked Adrian Fletcher's kick into the centre of Subiaco Oval.

"The mark has been taken by umpire Carey," commentator Dennis Cometti said, as players from both sides looked on, some in disbelief, some amused.

A cult figure with a bold moustache, Carey umpired 307 games, including four Grand Finals, but he is best known for that one odd intervention.

Carey's mark is being used to launch Toyota's new My Legendary Moment campaign, with fans invited to create their own legendary moment ad with a spot in the Grand Final motorcade up for grabs.

Fans can head to toyota.com.au/mylegendarymoment to enter from 5pm Friday for a chance to win a HiLux and a Grand Final package.

The campaign hopes to inspire fans to create their own ads in the mould of the Toyota AFL Legendary Moments campaign, which has celebrated figures including Peter Daicos, Tony Lockett and Kevin Bartlett.
