MITCH Robinson has been slugged with a one-match sanction for striking Jack Newnes but his Carlton captain Marc Murphy has escaped penalty for making contact with Nick Riewoldt.

Robinson can accept the suspension from the panel for his third-quarter altercation with Newnes, which was classified as reckless and high.

The incident happened in the often-fiery match after tempers boiled over between the pair and Newnes pulled Robinson's jumper over his head.

Robinson then struck out at the young Saint and connected, catching Newnes with medium impact and costing himself a week.

The midfielder and the Blues are risking a two-match ban if they take it to the Tribunal and lose.

As it stands, Robinson will miss the Blues' clash with Adelaide in round 10 after they've had their bye this week, if he takes an early plea.

Meanwhile, the collision between Murphy and Riewoldt that left the Saints' skipper dazed and needing a concussion clearing before coming back on has been deemed legal.

It happened in the third quarter when Riewoldt bent to take possession and Murphy came in from the side.

The panel deemed that Blues' defender Sam Rowe pushed Riewoldt into the path of Murphy, which wasn't the Carlton captain's fault.

Simon White has also been cleared of any wrongdoing from another third term incident that left young Saint Luke Dunstan groggy.

Contact was classified as accidental given Dunstan had turned to follow Troy Menzel and stepped into the path of White.
