AN INSPIRED six-goal performance from veteran Warren Tredrea has steered Port Adelaide to an emphatic 57-point win over Melbourne in front of 21,030 fans at AAMI Stadium.

Tredrea, goalless before Sunday, kicked 6.1 to help correct his side’s accuracy issues of last week and secure a valuable home win, 22.15 (147) to 14.6 (90).

Dominant ruckman Dean Brogan made up for missing round two through suspension with two goals and 21 hit-outs and Danyle Pearce (two goals and 28 touches) was also influential.

However, leading possession winner Peter Burgoyne and skipper Dom Cassisi both face nervous waits after being involved in separate off-the-ball incidents.

Aaron Davey celebrated his 100th game with an individually brilliant 30 possessions and Nathan Jones also battled hard.

Brad Green, with three goals, and Cameron Bruce, Brad Miller and Matthew Bate (two each) were the Dees’ multiple goalkickers.

The Power ran out onto AAMI Stadium determined to make amends for last week’s lacklustre performance and opened the match with the first three goals.

Colin Sylvia, in his first game back from a club-imposed suspension, again showed a lack of discipline and was reported for shoving antagonist Josh Carr in the opening minutes.

Cassisi capitalised with a goal and when he set up another to Brogan, the home side had skipped to a two-goal lead.

Tredrea looked dangerous up forward and combined with Robbie Gray to extend the margin to 18-points.

The Dees got going midway through the first term through Davey and Jones.

Jones set up his side’s first major with a beautiful high ball into the lap of impressive youngster Neville Jetta.

Jetta converted from 35m out and Melbourne kept pressing.

The Dees moved the ball patiently into attack and were rewarded with a goal to Green, which cut the deficit to eight points at quarter time.

The Power had all the play at the start of the second term, but overused the handball and found it difficult to orchestrate purposeful thrusts inside50m.

Port Adelaide, to the delight of the home crowd, eventually found a path going forward and Tredrea made the most of his opportunity with another goal.

Melbourne remained competitive and got back into the contest through majors to Brent Moloney and Green.

But the home side through sheer weight of possession started to get on top.

The Cornes brothers, Peter Burgoyne and the creative Nathan Krakouer got plenty of it as the Power slammed on six goals to two in the second quarter.

Tredrea slotted his third and quick goals to Matt Thomas, Gray, Chad and Kane Cornes made it seven for the term and stretched the lead to 37 points at half time.

The Power, through milestone man Daniel Motlop, Tredrea and Pearce, slammed on three more goals to stretch the lead to 55 points in the third quarter.

Lynden Dunn, Cale Morton and Brad Miller offered some brief resistance for the visitors, but Port Adelaide kicked away again with more goals to Tredrea and Gray, along with Carr’s first.

Melbourne attempted a resurgence with three goals in two minutes at the start of the fourth quarter, majors to Chad Cornes, and Tredrea’s, sixth put the game to bed.

The Power will now head to the MCG to take on reigning premiers Hawthorn, while the Dees will be looking for their first win against Richmond, also at the MCG.
