HAWTHORN midfielder Sam Mitchell has labelled the bump he received from Geelong's Steve Johnson "no big deal" and says the pair talked about the incident post-match.

The Cats forward was reported for rough conduct in the second quarter of the traditional Easter Monday clash at the MCG after colliding with Mitchell in an off-the-ball incident.

Mitchell said Johnson offered an explanation for his late hit after the game.

"I talked to him afterwards and he said he thought I had taken possession of the ball so then he was trying to knock it out of (my) grasp, so no big deal I wouldn't think," Mitchell told Channel Nine on Monday night.

"It was just a glancing blow, I didn't need any medical treatment or anything so I'm sure he'll be fine."

Mitchell said he escaped uninjured after the collision.

"I was just due for a rotation so I was due to come off anyway," he said.

The incident was the 17th time Johnson had been booked over his 234-game career. The Match Review Panel has found the Cats' star guilty on 13 occasions.
