COLLINGWOOD skipper Scott Pendlebury remains a chance to take on Geelong at the MCG on Sunday after he was cleared of a serious ankle injury.

Pendlebury injured his left ankle in the second quarter of Sunday's clash against Brisbane and, after initially trying to play on, was forced to sit out the majority of the second half.

The results of scans on Tuesday ruled out a fracture or ligament damage, keeping Pendlebury in the frame for a huge clash against the Cats, according to Magpies football manager Geoff Walsh.

"Scott is out of the protective boot (moonboot) he wore home from Brisbane and the upshot is that he has bruising to his ankle and lower shin," Walsh said.

"He has been cleared of anything more serious than that, which is pleasing, and he is a chance to play against the Cats."

Walsh said Pendlebury would be carefully monitored at training before a decision is made about his availability.

"We will obviously need to see how he negotiates the remainder of the training week," Walsh said.
