The AFL has confirmed the 2026 list of Restricted and Unrestricted Free Agents.
Restricted and Unrestricted Free Agents can consider offers from other clubs during the post-season free agency period.
An Unrestricted Free Agent is a player who has served eight or more years at one club and is out of contract. An Unrestricted Free Agent is permitted to automatically move to a club of their choice.
A Restricted Free Agent is a player who has served eight or nine years with one club, is out of contract, and is in the top 25 per cent of wage earners at their club. An offer to a Restricted Free Agent may be matched by their club.
Should their original club match the offer and the Restricted Free Agent Player doesn't wish to remain with their original club, they must seek a trade or enter the Draft system.
Compensation in the form of AFL-allocated draft picks will apply to clubs with a net loss of Free Agents, based on the formula determined by the AFL.
Draft picks will be allocated to one of five places: first round, end of first round, second round, end of second round and third round.
