TASMANIA'S push for provisional AFL and AFLW competition licences has ramped up with a rare display of media unity that on Friday has seen the state's three daily newspapers all splash with articles pushing the cause.

The Hobart Mercury, Launceston Examiner and Advocate all called on Tasmanians to get behind the unitedwestand.com.au project.

A taskforce appointed by the Tasmanian government and headed by high-profile businessman Brett Godfrey (the founding CEO of Virgin Australia Airlines) said the newspapers' approach would help dispel a misconception that the state will forever be divided on regional beliefs.

"This campaign has the potential to completely and finally discredit such thinking and show the passion, ambition and united commitment of the state to its own AFL team," Godfrey said.

The taskforce will present a detailed document to the government late this year, and is hopeful its business case will prove compelling enough for a provisional AFL licence within six years.
