COLLINGWOOD veteran Chris Mayne has signed a one-year contract extension that will tie him to the Magpies until the end of 2021.

The former Fremantle forward initially struggled at Collingwood, making just three senior appearances in 2017, but over the past two years has reinvented himself as a defensively minded wingman.

The 31-year-old is highly valued at the Holden Centre for his team-first approach, nous and enthusiasm.

"I'm really pleased to have another year to share in the Collingwood experience," Mayne said.

"The journey so far has been tremendously rewarding, personally and professionally. There have been a few twists in the tale but so much to be grateful for and the faith we have shown in each other makes me very proud."

Pies list manager Ned Guy was pleased to secure Mayne for another season.

"Chris is an example to all of his teammates of what dedication, discipline and football smarts can achieve. He is also a fantastic clubman who people thrive around," Guy said.

"He helps our team tick and for that his teammates and coaches value him highly. An extension is appropriate recognition of that."
