AS A veteran of four Grand Finals and three premierships, former Brisbane Lions captain Jonathan Brown knows better than most the difference that the roar from the stands can make to players on the ground.

But in this year's Toyota AFL Finals Series, Brown's role has changed from on-field champion to off-field cheerleader for footy's most important month.

Brown's voice backs the marketing campaign for the finals series, titled Don't Go Quietly, and the champ leads by example as he exhorts fans to get along to the games and get behind their teams.

He described his performance as his "best Al Pacino, Any Given Sunday impersonation", adding that the theme appealed to him.

"When I read the script, it immediately resonated with me, it captured the feeling you get as a player and a fan," Brown said.

"It's why players love to play at home and in front of big crowds. The fans make a real difference, you can feel it on the field - they can actually change the momentum of a game."

The campaign features a number of the AFL's biggest names including Fremantle's Nathan Fyfe, Port Adelaide's Chad Wingard, the Sydney Swans' Lance Franklin, Essendon's Brendon Goddard, Adelaide's Eddie Betts and Collingwood's Dane Swan, with support from some of the AFL's most passionate fans from across Australia.
