The Brisbane Lions return to Gold Coast Stadium on August 2 to play the Kangaroos in a round 18 clash that is sure to have a significant effect on the finals chances of both sides.

The Lions are looking to revisit finals action for the first time since they lost to Port Adelaide in the 2004 Grand Final whilst the Kangaroos are also well in the hunt to make the finals and perhaps go one better than last season’s preliminary final.

Brisbane and the Kangaroos are two powerhouse teams of recent times with five premierships between them in the last 11 years. The Lions of course still have many players left from their historic three peat of AFL premierships between 2001 and 2003 including Jonathan Brown who many say is the best player in the game today.

The Lions also have 2002 Brownlow medalist Simon Black and Luke Power in their engine room and Gold Coaster Daniel Merrett who is quickly becoming one of the best fullbacks in the league.

The Kangaroos have one win and one loss from their two AFL Toyota Premiership games at Gold Coast Stadium this season and will be looking to make sure they finish on top in what are home games for the Victorian team.

Gold Coaster David Hale had another strong game for the Kangaroos at Gold Coast Stadium with 13 possessions, seven marks and one goal in their round 14 loss to the Saints which followed up his three goal effort in their win over the Eagles in round eight. Hale will again be a key figure along with Adam Simpson and Brent Harvey in what may be their last game on the Gold Coast.

As well as the exciting action on the ground there will be plenty of excitement around the stadium with a range of corporate alternatives, two party decks for the young at heart, the Carlton Mid Boundary Riders Bar and the Kid’s Zone.
