BRISBANE Lions forward Mitch Clark appears set for a return to Western Australia with Fremantle looming as Clark's likely suitor.

Speculation has been rife all season that Clark would leave the Lions in 2012 to either return home to Western Australia or join start-up franchise Greater Western Sydney.

The Australian reports today though that "neither Clark nor Greater Western Sydney want a future relationship" and that Clark is poised to join Fremantle on a "lucrative" deal with Clark seeking a contract worth "more than $500,000 a season".

Fremantle are in desperate need of a key forward and have "flat out rejected recruiting Brendan Fevola" and it is believed Clark "seriously contemplated a move home to Western Australia last year to join Fremantle, if the Lions' stretched salary cap continued to be an issue".

It is believed Fremantle has room in its salary cap to accommodate Clark's requested deal.

The Brisbane Lions have tabled a three-year contract extension to Clark with Lions list manager Rob Kerr saying "I'm not certain whether he'll be with us, but we haven't given up on it".

"The lure of him returning home is not a fait accompli."

An indication of Clark's future may rest with Clark's parents. They are returning to Western Australia after living Queensland for several years.
