FREMANTLE has grabbed back-to-back wins for the first time in 2008 with an outstanding 28-point victory over Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium
Fremantle had a club record 16 individual goalkickers and barely a poor performer in their 20.9 (129) to 15.11 (101) victory.
It was a timely warm up for next week's western derby particularly after losing their captain Matthew Pavlich to a jarred knee before the bounce.
His side started the match magnificently without him. Their midfield runners were on song and their ball use was a class above the Power in the early running.
Luke McPharlin took over as the key forward target kicking two goals for the term as the visitors slammed on their six unanswered goals with the aid of a strong breeze.
Port Adelaide was unable to register even one major score for the term and found themselves 36 points down at the first change.
However, they would have been furious at how two of Fremantle's first-term goals came about.
The first came when Josh Carr marked a shanked kick-out from Toby Thurstans 10m from the end of the goalsquare. The former Power premiership player duly converted then minutes later Antoni Grover also nailed a long shot after marking at half back and receiving a soft 50m penalty against Warren Tredrea at half back.
Dark storm clouds circled AAMI Stadium during the quarter-time break but Port emerged with more vigour and immediately looked a different side with the wind at their back.
Ruckman Dean Brogan got a free kick close to goal and converted within two minutes then Justin Westoff took over.
The 20-year-old used his checkside talents to kick the next two goals and when skipper Tredrea nailed a 50m shot it was game on.
Fremantle squandered a couple of shots, with Chris Tarrant's set shot miss from 20m out on a slight angle the most frustrating.
Mark Johnson finally came to the party with a fierce attack on the ball at a forward line contest which provided the visitors first goal of the term.
Tredrea replied soon after to get it back to a two-goal game but Fremantle's. Ryan Murphy got a free kick for over the shoulder near the 50m arc on the boundary and stretched the margin again.
But again it was Tredrea who got the goal the home side needed via a nifty along the ground snap helped by a solid shepherd.
Port went on with the job in the third quarter and after a surge grabbed the lead halfway through the quarter.
Their midfield runners again took charge and they added the next three goals to wrest back the initiative.
A superb Danyle Pearce snap [with his non-preferred right boot] was matched by Fremantle's No. 16 David Mundy [with his non-preferred left foot] to keep Fremantle ahead.
A late, long goal to left footed Josh Head stretched the three-quarter time margin to 27 points.
Port was coming home on the breeze and the margin was well within reach if good enough.
However, Fremantle never stopped running and was able to reply whenever Port got goals which proved pivotal in the final analysis.
