REIGNING No.1 and No.2 NAB AFL draftees Tom Scully and Jack Trengove will make their AFL debuts for Melbourne against Hawthorn at the MCG on Saturday.

Melbourne football operations manager Chris Connolly confirmed the duo would don the red and blue for the first time in its season opener.

"Tom and Jack have worked extremely hard over the pre-season and have earned the right to play for the Melbourne Football Club in round one," Connolly told melbournefc.com.au.

"They have done everything right since arriving at the club and we are looking forward to seeing them debut in our first game for 2010.

"Both will be outstanding prospects long-term."

The pair featured in all four NAB Cup/Challenge matches during the pre-season and showed they were ready to step up from the start.

Scully, a two-time All-Australian at under-18 level, averaged 26 disposals per match during last year's NAB AFL under-18 championships. He has already been given No.31 - made famous by club great Ron Barassi.

Trengove, also All-Australian in last year's under-18 carnival, averaged 23 touches per game and later starred for Sturt in the senior SANFL finals last year. From those efforts, he could have easily been the first player picked in last year's draft.

The South Australian, who has already signed a three-year deal with the Demons, will don the No.9 guernsey, previously worn by club games and goals record holder David Neitz.

Defender James Strauss, who was selected at No.19 in the 2008 NAB AFL Draft, may also make his debut against Hawthorn, although that will be determined later on Thursday.

Strauss had a frustrating first season in 2009, after being troubled by ankle and leg injuries. He then sustained a shoulder injury, which forced him to have a reconstruction.
