PORT Adelaide co-captain Ollie Wines will miss a second straight game with a fractured thumb after being ruled out of Saturday night's clash with Greater Western Sydney at Adelaide Oval.

"He was pretty eager to play this week, but the doctor said he was more chance of looking towards next week, so he definitely won't be out there on Saturday night," Power co-captain Tom Jonas told reporters on Wednesday.

But in better news, former skipper Travis Boak (managed) and small forward Sam Gray (corked thigh) aren't in any doubt to face the Giants despite not training on Wednesday.

Out-of-favour ruckman Paddy Ryder is also in line to make his long-awaited return as the Power aim to keep their season alive.

Defender Dan Houston didn't do any contact work at training and will have to pass concussion tests later in the week, but is on track to play.

So too is Boak, with the veteran midfielder in All Australian contention after averaging 31.9 disposals per game.

"He's just managing a couple of little niggles, but absolutely in no doubt for the weekend," Jonas said of the former skipper.

"It's a hip or his back.

"He's got a few things going on, but he'll be right."

Ryder is a strong chance to return for his first game since round 13.

The 31-year-old would provide the Power with a one-two punch in the ruck alongside Scott Lycett, while also giving another target in attack.

"Paddy will be right in the mix," Jonas said.

"We know how important he is to our group. It'd be great to have Paddy back in the team and working in tandem with Scotty."

The Power could play three talls in attack with Jonas preferring to keep swingman Dougal Howard up forward.

"I'd like to see Doug stay forward, he's a real enigma up there," Jonas said.

"We've got a lot of backs that are in form who can come in and help us out.

"I'd prefer to keep him forward and back him in and help out Charlie down there."

The Power (8-9) are ninth on the ladder having lost three of their past four games.

Asked if it was make or break, Jonas replied: "Absolutely.

"If you're sitting ninth and you look at the teams above, they've got a reasonable draw and we're equal with three or four other teams.

"We've got to control our own destiny by winning each game, and it starts with this Saturday."
