CARLTON’s 2017 No.3 draft pick Paddy Dow has charged back up the leaderboard in the Smithy’s VFL Coaches Player of the Year award after polling his second perfect 10-vote match of the season.

Dow, who also grabbed 10 votes in Round 1, was unanimously judged best-on-ground after earning 34 disposals, seven clearances and seven inside-50s in the Blues’ easy win over North Melbourne at Ikon Park on Saturday, lifting him back into third spot on the leaderboard behind teammate Will Hayes, who polled five votes for his 38 disposals, six marks, five rebounds and a goal, and Southport star Jacob Dawson.

The two outstanding key forward performances of the round (and the season along with Mitch Brown’s Round 1 haul) each unsurprisingly earned 10 votes for their owners – Jake Riccardi’s nine goals for GWS against the Northern Bullants and Ollie Henry’s seven for Collingwood against Coburg, while Deven Robertson (24 disposals, eight marks, seven clearances, nine tackles, two goals) drew the attention of both coaches in the Brisbane Lions’ big win over Sydney.

Gold Coast ruckman Ned Moyle was judged to be the difference in the Suns’ heartstopping win over Werribee, taking nine votes after picking up 17 disposals, seven clearances and a remarkable 54 hitouts, while Footscray’s Rhylee West also earned nine votes with 26 touches, five marks, five clearances and nine inside-50s against Essendon.

As with the AFL Coaches Association Player of the Year, the VFL award is voted on by the coaches of each club after every game.

The coaches are awarding 5-4-3-2-1 to their best players in the game from either team, with those votes collated and revealed each week on vfl.com.au.

A total of 34 new players attracted the coaches’ attention in Round 4, making it 249 to have polled so far this season.
