REIGNING Lambert-Pearce medallist Georgia Nanscawen is on track to claim another major award after taking the lead in the inaugural rebel VFLW Coaches Player of the Year award.

Essendon captain Nanscawen, who was earlier this year named the Bombers’ first AFLW signing, polled her first perfect 10 vote-haul of the season after picking up 34 disposals, seven marks, eight clearances, six inside-50s and seven tackles in her team’s dominant victory over Darebin.

It took her to 55 votes and gave her a one-vote advantage over last week’s leader Hannah Stuart, the Southern Saints star who grabbed another seven votes for her 26 disposals, eight clearances and a goal against the Western Bulldogs.

Geelong star Laura Gardiner climbed into third spot on 50, having polled six votes in the Cats’ win over North Melbourne with another huge haul of 39 touches, six rebound-50s and six tackles, but her coach Andrew Bruce told KRock radio she was likely to be rested for the remainder of the season in a hammer blow to their premiership hopes.

Hawthorn's Tamara Luke moved into fourth place with a nine-vote performance against Port Melbourne. Picture: AFL Photos

Hawthorn captain Tamara Luke moved into a share of fourth spot on 43 with a nine-vote, 19-disposal, nine-mark, 14-hitout, two-goal performance against Port Melbourne.

Carlton’s Madeleine Di Cosmo was the other star of the round, gaining nine votes in the draw with Williamstown (see match replay below) for 20 possessions and four clearances, while Geelong’s Georgie Rankin picked up her first votes with eight for 19 disposals, seven marks, seven tackles and a goal against the Kangaroos.

As with the AFL Coaches Association Player of the Year, the VFLW award is voted on by the coaches of each club after every game in both competitions.

The coaches are awarding 5-4-3-2-1 to their best players in the game from either team, with those votes collated and revealed each week on vfl.com.au.

Another five new players attracted the coaches’ attention for the first time in Round 10, making it 212 who have polled votes for the season.
