Vic Metro scored its first win of the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships in defeating South Australia on Saturday, while Western Australia inflicted the Allies’ second loss of the carnival.

In the first match of the Round 3 double-header at Alberton Oval in Adelaide, the Allies started strongly against WA with three of the game’s first four goals but conceded nine majors to two after quarter time to fall to a 25-point defeat.

Head coach Luke Power’s team lost to Vic Country by 97 points in Launceston in its first match of the Championships and will next face Vic Metro on Friday June 28 at GMHBA Stadium from 10.30am. WA has now won two of its three games, this victory adding to a 17-point defeat of Metro.

The second leg of the double-header saw Metro open its 2019 account with a 17-point triumph over last year’s title-winner South Australia. Head coach Brett Allison’s group first gained the ascendancy in the second quarter before answering a challenge from SA early in the third term with five straight goals to create a match-winning buffer.

Following the loss to WA and one to Vic Country by 13 points in the opening match of the carnival, Metro’s upcoming clash with the Allies will be its last of the Championships (given a bye in the final round). SA now has one win and one loss on the board ahead of an encounter with unbeaten Country this Friday at GMHBA Stadium from 1pm.
