Port Melbourne has gained a massive late boost with the signing of reigning Rohenna Young medallist Federica Frew ahead of its rebel VFLW clash with Collingwood on Saturday.

The Borough, who went down to Carlton last week, picked up the Essendon premiership spearhead after she was delisted by the Bombers’ AFLW team, meaning they now boast the two leading goalkickers from last season having signed Hawthorn’s Jessie Williams over the summer.

Both have been selected to make their Port debuts against the Magpies in the first of Saturday’s double header at ETU Stadium, with centre half-forward Stella Reid also returning to significantly boost the home team’s scoring power.

The Magpies, who took over after quarter-time to beat Williamstown in Round 1, have recalled Erica Fowler and handed a debut to Gold Coast Suns Academy graduate Imogen Evans.

There are plenty of changes for the Grand Final rematch between the Southern Saints and Essendon at Wilson Storage Trevor Barker Beach Oval on Sunday.

The Saints have brought in Nicki Cormack, veteran former Kangaroo Kim Ebb, returning youngsters Grace Hodder and Bella Enno and St Kilda Irish recruit Jane Moore in their five swaps, although Madi Capsalis and Georgia Foran are among the outs.

The Bombers have included top AFLW draft pick Amber Clarke and handed debuts to Maddy Pearson and Leah Spargo and former Western Bulldogs AFLW player Annabel Strahan, but they will be without captain Mia-Rae Clifford and fellow premiership player Alex Morcom among their five changes.

Box Hill Hawks have included an ominous list of recruits for their home game against Western Bulldogs, with dual AFLW premiership player Sarah Perkins making a welcome return to action alongside star young Hawthorn recruits Charlotte Baskaran, Zoe Barbakos and Janet Baird and Geelong VFLW player Tamara Smith.

Williamstown has three impressive inclusions for its trip to North Melbourne, bringing in Sydney AFLW player Bridie Kennedy, midfielder Ruby Barnes and Megan Williamson, who returns to VFLW after a season with Bendigo Thunder, but they will be without injured captain Erin Meade.

The Kangaroos will unveil Bulldogs recruit Mara McSweeney in place of Essendon signing Felicity Theodore, who is injured.

And there are two debutants each for Casey Demons and Darebin at Casey Fields, with the former bringing in Gippsland Power youngster Tylah Burn and Seaford’s Dayna Smith, who played for Southern Saints until 2021 and the Falcons calling up former Geelong player Bec Goring and their own junior product Sacha Kenna.

All matches in the 2023 Smithy’s VFL and rebel VFLW seasons will be live streamed free via the AFL website and AFL Live Official App.
