All the teams for Round 10 in the Smithy’s VFL.

AFL Mid-Season Draft contender Clay Tucker will get another opportunity to impress AFL clubs after being named to make his Smithy’s VFL debut for Box Hill Hawks in their Sunday afternoon trip to face Essendon at NEC Hangar.

The 200cm big man from Eastern Ranges has impressed in both the Coates Talent League and the recent Young Guns series and will join fellow highly-rated youngster Ryan Maric, who debuted last week, in a Hawks’ team that also includes Hawthorn forward Harry Morrison but will be without in-form goalkicker Jaylon Thorpe with a groin injury.

The Bombers have loaded up, with Nik Cox returning from a long-term ankle injury to make his VFL debut in his first appearance at any level this season, while Alwyn Davey, Kaine Baldwin and Massimo D’Ambrosio have also been named, but star ruckman Nick Bryan and utility Matt Guelfi have travelled to Perth with the AFL team.

Josh Bruce will return from a rib injury for Footscray’s trip to Darwin to take on a Gold Coast team on the rebound from its first loss of the season last week, with No.39 draft pick Harvey Gallagher to finally pull on the Bulldogs’ colours for the first time after overcoming a hamstring injury and key defender Alex Keath unable to force his way back into the AFL team after missing last week, while Tim O’Brien did get a recall.

The Suns have also loaded up, with Sam Day, Connor Blakely, Brandon Ellis and Bodhi Uwland all coming into the team that was overrun by Werribee last week, with Joel Jeffrey and Ben Long promoted.

Undefeated Brisbane Lions have lost prolific midfielder Rhys Mathieson for six weeks with a hamstring injury among five changes for its Saturday night trip to Frankston, with Darcy Gardiner in the AFL team, Noah Answerth concussed and Shadeau Brain out for a month with a shoulder injury, with Harry Sharp and Kyle Dunkley leading the inclusions and Wilston Grange’s Bailey Gordon to debut.

The Dolphins also named a debut, with Cheltenham’s Alec McComb called up after 15 goals in six Southern league games, including a six-goal haul against Port Melbourne Colts two weeks ago, while classy forward Blake O’Leary to play his first game of the year after a pre-season hip injury.

Former Essendon forward Josh Eyre will play his first game for Collingwood against North Melbourne at the AIA Centre on Sunday after overcoming a hamstring injury suffered while trialling at St Kilda in the pre-season. Reef McInnes, Trey Ruscoe and Oscar Steene are included, with North Ringwood’s Harry Flynn to debut.

But the Magpies have lost another former Bomber, with Jake Long possibly to miss the rest of the season with his own serious hamstring injury.

The Kangaroos have named son-of-a-gun Jackson Archer to return alongside Aidan Corr, Darcy Tucker, Flynn Perez and Lachie Young, with Strathmore big man Cooper Keogh and Old Scotch youngster Alex Noblett to debut, but they have lost Charlie Lazzaro to the AFL and Aiden Bonar and Hamish Free to injury.

Werribee will aim to push into the top four in front of members of its only VFL Division 1 premiership team when the heroes of 1993 watch the Tigers take on Casey Demons at Avalon Airport Oval, with Matthew Keast replaced the concussed Jesse Clark, with the Demons handing a debut to South Belgrave teenager Charlie Peters

St Kilda forward Tim Membrey has been named to play his second game for Sandringham this season alongside Cooper Sharman, Darby Hipwell and Vince Zagari when they host Coburg under lights at RSEA Park, with the Lions recalling experienced former captain Ryan Exon and giving a debut to Caulfield Grammarian Ingo Dammersmith.

Geelong captain Angus Byrne, vice-captain Dan Capiron and full back Bailey van de Heuvel are back for the Cats’ home game against Port Melbourne at GMHBA Stadium on Sunday, with Mitch Knevitt and Ollie Dempsey also named and Wangaratta’s Tyler Norton to make his debut.

The Borough regains ruckman Paul Hunter and key defender Jackson Weidemann as they surprisingly dropped key forward Archi Manton and experienced backman Campbell Walker and lose Cody Stackelberg for a month with a rib injury.

All matches in the 2023 Smithy’s VFL and rebel VFLW seasons will be live streamed free via the AFL website and AFL Live Official App.

Smithy’s VFL broadcast partner, the Seven Network, will show one weekly game live and free on the Seven Network in Victoria and on 7Plus nationally. This week’s game will be Geelong Cats vs Port Melbourne.

Casey Radio 97.7FM will be broadcasting the Werribee vs Casey Demons clash and 3WBC 94.1FM will take Essendon vs Box Hill Hawks.
