STAR Cat Gary Ablett and Swan Adam Goodes make welcome returns from injury, Crow Graham Johncock and the Power's Peter Burgoyne are back in favour and the Pies have named two debutants in Thursday night's team selections for round 19.

Melbourne has recalled defender Nathan Carroll for the clash with Geelong on Friday night, which will open Tom Wills Round. James Frawley and Nathan Jones are also back, but the Demons lose Daniel Bell and Colin Garland to hamstrings, and speedster Aaron Davey with a foot injury. Jeff White and Adem Yze are left to cool their heels as emergencies.

Brownlow Medal favourite Ablett, who has missed three matches with an ankle injury, returns for ladder-leading Geelong, as does Shannon Byrnes. Darren Milburn is out through suspension and Travis Varcoe has been dropped.

Jason Saddington’s hard slog at VFL level has been rewarded with a spot in the Carlton side that will host the Power on Saturday.

The 28-year-old former Swan will play his 161st career game, his first of the season, and comes in at the expense of youngster Mark Austin. Eddie Betts has been named despite straining a hamstring against the Crows.

Port Adelaide has made three unforced changes with Burgoyne, Damon White and Troy Chaplin replacing Greg Bentley, Nathan Lonie and Toby Thurstans in the side that fell just short of St Kilda last week.

Brendon Lade is an emergency along with Matthew Westhoff and Ryan Williams.

The Brisbane Lions have recalled Lachlan Henderson, Tim Notting and James Hawksley for the match against the Hawks at Aurora Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Mitch Clark will miss with a quad strain while Anthony Corrie and Scott Clouston have been omitted.

Hawthorn has made no changes to the 22 that defeated the Magpies by 54 points.

However, Collingwood has made five after a week of turmoil with Shane Wakelin, Danny Stanley, Chris Dawes, Ryan Cook and John McCarthy all drafted into the side to face the Saints on Saturday night.

The Pies have, of course, banned Alan Didak and Heath Shaw for the rest of the season while Shane O’Bree is out injured and Ryan Lonie and Sharrod Wellingham have been omitted.

McCarthy, an 18-year-old midfielder picked 31st overall in the 2007 NAB AFL Draft, and Dawes, a 20-year-old key forward prospect, will make their debuts.

St Kilda regains key defender Max Hudghton for the match, but loses important onballer Luke Ball who tore his hamstring in the dying minutes of last week’s win over the Power.

The Sydney Swans are significantly boosted after regaining Leo Barry and Adam Goodes for Saturday night’s home clash against Freo. Jarred Moore also returns with Paul Roos dropping Luke Ablett, Ryan Brabazon and Jesse White from the side defeated by the Bulldogs in Canberra. Ablett and Brabazon are emergencies along with Nick Malceski.

Fremantle has also made three changes with Roger Hayden, Andrew Browne and Adam Campbell in for Ryan Murphy (omitted), Jeff Farmer (suspended) and Shaun McManus (retired).
