All the teams for Round 15 of the Smithy’s VFL.

Williamstown will welcome back three key players for its Smithy’s VFL match of the round against North Melbourne at Arden Street Oval on Sunday as it looks to protect its position in the top six from a genuine challenger.

300-match great Ben Jolley’s push towards the VFL games record is back on after some calf tightness saw him miss the Seagulls’ 30-point loss to Footscray two weeks ago, with the bye making all the difference.

It will be a milestone day for the third consecutive game for Williamstown as James Cousins returns from a hamstring injury to make his 50th VFL appearance. Jack McHale also returns, with last game’s milestone man Jason Pongracic losing his spot alongside Will Jury and Zac Pritchard.

The Kangaroos, who can replace the Seagulls in the top six with a win, regain Josh Goater, Kayne Turner and Phoenix Spicer, with Darcy Tucker promoted and Louis Butler and Jarrod Lienert rested.

Footscray and Coburg have each recalled an important player after a long-term injury for their relocated game at Williamstown’s DSV Stadium on Saturday.

Charlie Beasley will play his first game for the Lions since a serious hamstring injury early in Round 1, having got through three VAFA games for Old Trinity to come in as Sam Mason and Ingo Dammersmith go out with concussion.

It’s a mixed bag for the Bulldogs, headed by the return of spring-heeled forward Dom Bedendo for his first game this season after a groin injury and Sam Darcy from a broken jaw.

However, they lose Hayden Crozier (hamstring) for two months, Harvey Gallagher (finger) for at least two weeks and Rourke Smith (foot) probably for the rest of the season, adding to the merit of their win over Williamstown a fortnight ago.

Essendon faces the biggest challenge in the VFL right now as it makes its long-awaited return to Windy Hill for the first time this season, welcoming the Gold Coast juggernaut on Sunday, but the Bombers may be boosted by two huge inclusions.

Nick Bryan and Dylan Shiel have been named in the VFL team, with the latter to make his VFL debut – although one would be expected to end up as the AFL substitute the night before.

The Suns regain Frosty Miller medallist Chris Burgess and defenders Charlie Constable and Connor Budarick while handing a debut to Palm Beach-Currumbin youngster Finn Hay.

Collingwood have picked Dan McStay to make his comeback from a finger injury for its trip to Frankston on Sunday, with high-flyer Ash Johnson relegated from the AFL team and Gisborne speedster Rye Penny called up from the Calder Cannons for a VFL debut, with co-captain Lachie Tardrew named as an emergency but likely to be first in to replace the AFL sub.

The Dolphins will be strengthened by the returning Ryley Stoddart, Colby Nayna, Trent Marotta and Angus Grant, but they have lost Trent Mynott, along with Joe Lloyd and Jai Florent to injury.

Star ruckman Sam Naismith is back on deck from a groin injury for Port Melbourne’s trip to Box Hill City Oval on Saturday with defenders Tom Cameron, Nick Burke and Jack Johnston also boosting a Borough team that loses Nick Stuhldreier and Bryce Milford to ankle problems.

The Hawks have Changkuoth Jiath on the comeback trail after seven weeks out with a calf injury and Jacob Koschitzke from the AFL team, while Lachie Bramble and Cam Mackenzie remain on an extended AFL bench and mid-season draft ruckman Clay Tucker also comes in alongside a debutant in Frankston YCW’s Darcy Murr.

But five AFL-listed players – the promoted Chad Wingard, Fergus Greene and Josh Ward and the managed Josh Morris and Fionn O’Hara – go out alongside captain Hugh Beasley, who has a knee injury.

Northern Bullants have named two debutants and a club newcomer for its clash with ex-partner Carlton at IKON Park on Saturday.

Darcy Fritsch, the brother of Melbourne star Bayley, will play his first game for the Ants after kicking three goals in five appearances for Williamstown last year, while Strathmore’s Ben Holian and Point Cook Centrals’ Daniel Strnak have been added to the squad this week.

The Blues have stocked up after their bye, especially in defence where Sam Durdin returns from a hamstring injury for his first game since Round 4, Caleb Marchbank is back after a month out with soreness and Lachie Plowman and Tyreece Lieu are also back after missing the last game.

The prolific Paddy Dow has also been named to boost the midfield, while small forward Ben Ronke has overcome a hamstring injury, with Jack Silvagni, Zac Fisher and Dom Akuei among those to drop out.

Werribee has a host of key inclusions when it plays Sandringham for the time since 2019 at Avalon Airport Oval, with big forward Sam Paea returning from suspension, in-form rebounder Bior Malual back from a hamstring and GWS recruit Harry Grintell fronting up after 10 weeks out with a groin injury.

Keegan Gray, Bailey Henderson and Cam McLeod go out of the Tigers’ team with injuries.

The Zebras have Noah Gown back from suspension, Ben Paton from the AFL team and Jordan Segar from the VAFA, with Tom Campbell and Jack Peris promoted and Isaac Keeler rested.

Melbourne has swung a change in its AFL forward line, with Ben Brown going up from the Casey Demons’ line-up for the trip to Alice Springs and young goalkicker Jacob van Rooyen returning to Casey Fields for Sunday’s VFL game against GWS.

James Jordan also comes, while Jake Bowey and James Harmes have also travelled to the red centre after being promoted.

Veteran Giant Phil Davis launches his latest calf injury comeback alongside No.1 draft pick Aaron Cadman as Toby McMullin and Jason Gillbee also return, with Isaac Cumming and Josh Fahey promoted, Tom McCaffrey to miss weeks with a finger problem and Mitch Ryan out for up to six with a shoulder.

Callum Ah Chee has been promoted to the AFL, skipper Wylie Buzza will miss with illness, Tom Fullarton and Nakia Cockatoo both have minor hamstring injuries and Bruce Reville has been released to play for the QAFL representative team in their state league clash with Tasmania.

Darcy Fort and Kai Lohmann join Gunston in returning, which will cover most of the goal kicking exodus.

Richmond has named Maurice Rioli after he was omitted from the AFL team, while Hugo Ralphsmith has also been picked in the VFL but could be the AFL substitute for a second straight week.

Tom McCartin will play VFL for Sydney for the second straight week on the comeback trail from his concussion issues, failing to win his spot back in an AFL team coming off a 171-point annihilation of West Coast.

The Swans take on Geelong in a curtain raiser to the AFL clash at the SCG on Friday night, with Ryan Clarke also named to play in the early game, but Tom Longmire, the son of coach John Longmire, will miss the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury last week.

Sydney has another debutant in Manly-Warringah youngster Byron Laws, who has earned a call up after winning a Sydney AFL Rising Star nomination three weeks ago.

The Cats have named last week’s AFL sub Jack Bowes, while Osca Riccardi, Brayden Ham, Ben Lloyd and a debutant in Birchip-Watchem product Will Sheahan also come in.

However, they have been hit by injury, with Oscar Murdoch (knee) to miss alongside captain Angus Byrne, defender Marcus Herbert and forward Hamish Lucas, who are also injured.

All matches in the 2023 Smithy’s VFL and rebel VFLW seasons will be live streamed free via the AFL website and AFL Live Official App.

Smithy’s VFL broadcast partner, the Seven Network, will show one weekly game live and free on the Seven Network in Victoria and on 7Plus nationally. This week’s game will be Frankston vs Collingwood.
