Victoria’s most talented young footballers put their athletic skills to the test at the 2024 Coates Talent League Girls Testing Day.

Held at Thornbury’s Narrandjeri Stadium, the day saw players compete in a range of physical tests in preparation for the upcoming Coates Talent League Girls season, including the standing vertical jump, running vertical jump, 20m sprint, agility test and yo-yo test.

Oakleigh Chargers midfielder Sarah Poustie broke the Coates Talent League Girls record on the yo-yo test with a result of 18.3. It was the second consecutive year Poustie produced the top effort in the endurance test after recording 17.8 at last year’s testing day.

AFL National Academy Girls representative Grace Baba and Maddison Albrecht from the Calder Cannons recorded this year’s highest standing vertical jump at 56cm. Baba’s Eastern Ranges teammate Asher Fearn-Wannan topped the running vertical jump with an effort of 68cm.

Northern Knights speedster Maddison Meaher recorded a blistering 3.16 seconds for the 20m sprint, while Lavinia Cox from the Bendigo Pioneers was quickest in the agility test in a time of 8.27 seconds.

The 2024 Coates Talent League Girls season will commence with an Easter Thursday match between Geelong Falcons and GWV Rebels at GMHBA Stadium on March 28, before a further three matches take place on the weekend of April 6-7 to complete Round 1.

The home-and-away season will be played across 17 rounds, ahead of a three-week finals series.
