I got into London today after spending a few days in Scandanavia. Last year Tim Callan and I went to Denmark to do some clinics for the AFL as there is a developing pocket of footy players there. When we were coming over to play Port I saw it as a chance to go back to Copenhagen and then to Malmo in Sweden for a few days and catch up with the people that had treated us so well last year. It’s amazing to go to a country that has no history of football and see how excited and enthusiastic they are about the game. I have a bit of an understanding of taking up a foreign game. When I was younger I spent a year of school in Nebraska in the United States and took up American football. Once you get into a new sport you really get hooked. The flight over is long – that goes without saying – but the time passed pretty quickly. I flew into London and caught up with the guys at the hotel. Most of them just came in, so they were pretty weary. A few of the others had been in for a couple of days and they were a bit more awake. Our doctor, Chris Bradshaw used to work for Fulham in the premier league, and he took a few of the guys to their game against Charlton last night. It looks like they bought out the Fulham shop...they all seem to be on the Fulham bandwagon now.Rookey was pretty excited, he’s a huge Fulham fan and it’s the first time he had seen them in action. Chris organised a signed Fulham shirt from their captain, Luis Boa Morte and I know that takes pride of place in Jarad’s collection.Koula, Joel Corey and Matt Egan headed up to Newcastle on Sunday to watch their game - a three hour train trip each way. A lot of the players are into the soccer, and we even have our own fantasy league among the players. Gomez United (my team) isn’t going so well.So any chance to get to some games, even with a long trip, is being grabbed. We’re training with Fulham on Thursday morning and that will be a highlight, just to see how they go about preparing for a game and comparing it to our approach.Tomorrow Josh Hunt and I are off to the Oval for a PR stunt. We have to teach some English media how to kick and a few of the Surrey cricketers are coming along as well. Then the plan is to take them on in the nets. Should be a bit of sledging going on with the Ashes coming up!Anyway, that’s it for now. A few of us are planning on watching the Champions League on TV.
