The AFL sends its sincere condolences to Western Bulldogs’ coach Luke Beveridge on the passing of his father John, a legendary figure within recruiting circles at St Kilda who was an incredible contributor to our game for more than 50 years.
John, a former recipient of the Jack Titus Award for conspicuous service to the game and a life member of St Kilda, passed away late on Thursday evening after a long illness.
AFL Chief Executive Andrew Dillon said Beveridge had made an enormous contribution to the Saints as the club’s chief recruiter, particularly when building the club lists that competed in Grand Finals under Ross Lyon, but was also a huge promoter of young talent across the game.
“John was first involved at St Kilda back when the great Allan Jeans was coach, and devoted a lifetime to searching for the next great talented player for our game, and pushing them to achieve all they could,” Mr Dillon said.
“John was beloved across football, but particularly at the Saints, and we send our best wishes to Luke and the Beveridge family, and John’s many friends and colleagues across the industry who are mourning his loss.”
