The AFL today congratulates Jack Crisp as he is set to play his 245th consecutive match, passing Jim Stynes for the longest games streak in VFL/AFL history.
The record previously held by Jim Stynes ran from Round 16, 1987 to Round Four, 1998. Crisp’s streak began in Round 18, 2014 where the first six games were played at the Brisbane Lions.
Stynes' 244 game streak took 10 years and 268 days to accumulate, Crisp's 244 game streak took 10 years and 273 days.
Dustin Fletcher is the only person that played games in both streaks. Fletcher played for more than 20 years but never played more than 22 consecutive games himself.
AFL Chief Executive Andrew Dillon congratulated Crisp for his achievements both on and off the field as he celebrates this incredible AFL/VFL record.
"It is well known to everyone in football that Jack is a player of the highest quality, to reach such an achievement demonstrates tenacity, work ethic and character.
"For Jack to break the record set by Jim, who was an icon of our game, shows an outstanding dedication to the professionalism shown by Jack towards the game.
