Mitch McGovern, who was left out of the Crows' team for the trip to face the Giants despite being fit, kicked two goals from 11 possessions.

Recently dropped defender Jake Kelly was busy, finishing with 26 disposals, 10 marks and four tackles.

Goalkicking midfielder Myles Poholke (23 touches and two goals) made a strong contribution, while rookie Patrick Wilson led the way for the Crows, picking up 28 touches and taking 13 marks.

Former Roo Sam Gibson, who announced his retirement earlier in the week, gathered 21 possessions and took 15 marks.

The Crows went down by 45 points.

Brisbane Lions

The omitted Cam O'Shea was the best of the Blues' AFL contingent in their 16-point win over rivals Coburg.

Playing predominantly in the midfield, a change for the defender, O'Shea had 21 disposals and 12 tackles.

Levi Casboult alternated between forward and the ruck, kicking a goal and finishing with 39 hit-outs.

Aaron Mullett (24 touches) snuck under the guard of the Coburg defenders on a few occasions, kicking three goals, while Tom De Koning looked lively at times, taking a few contested marks to go with four clearances and 14 hit-outs.

Collingwood

The Magpies' injury crisis means there weren't too many AFL-listed players running around in the last-gasp two-point win over Port Melbourne.

It was a disappointing day for swingman Ben Reid, who suffered a suspected calf injury in his first match since a knee injury in round 10.

Callum Brown responded from his omission with 20 disposals and five tackles. His brother, Tyler, had 16 touches.

Forward Alex Fasolo, who has played just one AFL game this year, had a lean day in front of goals with two behinds, although he did take six marks.

Carlton

Michael Hartley was one of Essendon's best in their 8.10 (58) to 4.6 (30) loss at Geelong.

Hartley, who last played at AFL level in round five, had 18 possessions and 12 rebound 50s.

Kobe Mutch, who has played three AFL games this season, was busy with 24 touches and five clearances.

Matt Dea (13 disposals), Jackson Merrett (13) and James Stewart (12) were all quiet, so too was Matthew Leuenberger (six hit-outs, one goal).

Geelong Cats

Harry Taylor, who was returning from injury, played up forward and kicked one goal as Geelong won 28 points in the wet.

Importantly, Taylor came through the match unscathed.

Jordan Murdoch put his hand up for a promotion, with three goals and 21 touches, but his fine day at the office was soured by a report for a dangerous tackle.

Dropped defender Jackson Thurlow gathered a team-high 26 disposals, while Zac Guthrie (21 possessions) was also busy across half-back.

George Horlin-Smith (24 touches) and Jordan Cunico (22 disposals) provided plenty of drive from the midfield, and ruck duo Zac Smith (29 hit-outs) and Ryan Abbott (21 hit-outs) often gave them first use.

Horlin-Smith was also reported for a sling tackle.

Gold Coast Suns

Second-year midfielder Brad Scheer was one of Gold Coast's best in its 70-point loss to GWS, finishing with 28 disposals, two goals and 10 tackles.

Young teammate Josh Schoenfeld, who has struggled to break into the senior side in his three-year career – playing just 13 games – was extremely busy with 41 touches, six marks and five tackles.

Rookie midfielder Jacob Dawson responded to his demotion from the seniors in style with 33 touches (21 of which came in the first half), while Jacob Heron had 17.

GWS Giants

Daniel Lloyd had a day out in GWS' thumping 70-point win over Gold Coast, kicking six goals and amassing 37 disposals.

Lloyd played the first 12 games of the year at AFL level before injuring his knee and appears more than ready to return if a spot is available.

Harry Perryman was another to keep the statisticians busy with 43 touches and a goal.

Swingman Jeremy Finlayson, who has been in and out of the senior side this year, had 22 touches and four marks, while rookie Zach Sproule kicked three goals.

Hawthorn

Usual defender David Mirra found some form at the other end of the ground with four goals and 22 disposals in Box Hill's 14-point loss to Werribee.

Rookie James Cousins topped the Hawks' stats sheet with 33 disposals, while fellow rookie Oliver Hanrahan kicked two goals.

Jono O'Rourke, who has struggled to maintain his spot in Hawthorn's team this year, had 17.

Melbourne

Veteran Bernie Vince's season is over after suffering an injury to the AC joint in his shoulder, which will require surgery.

Tom Bugg's quest to earn back a spot in the seniors continues, winning 28 disposals in Casey's 21-point win over Sandringham. Bugg has played just three AFL games this season.

Running defender Josh Wagner had 25, while rookie key back Declan Keilty had 22.

Dean Kent topped the goal-scorers with three.

Luke Davies-Uniacke (one goal) and Declan Mountford were pivotal for the Roos.

Reece Conca had a mixed comeback from a dislocated ankle, finishing with 19 disposals and a rolled ankle – the opposite one to which he injured in round 15.

Inside midfielder Anthony Miles (29 disposals and a goal) had yet another tireless performance in the Tigers' 44-point loss to Williamstown.

Corey Ellis continues to perform well at VFL level with 26 disposals and nine marks.

Omitted duo Connor Menadue (19 disposals, eight marks) and Sam Lloyd (16 and 12 tackles) also played well.

Injury-hit defender Hugh Goddard was named Sandringham's best in its 21-point loss to Casey.

Goddard, who has played nine AFL games across four years, had 23 touches.

Luke Dunstan amassed 28 disposals after being omitted, while Irish rookie Ray Connellan kicked three goals.

Darren Minchington might be inching towards his first senior game since round 10 last year after a 27-touch performance. 

Sydney Swans

First-year player Ryley Stoddart kicked two final-quarter goals to take Sydney to a 13-point win over Canberra.

But the plaudits went to big man Darcy Cameron, who had a stunning game to finish with 30 disposals and a whopping 72 hit-outs.

Cameron played his sole AFL game three weeks ago.

Others who may come into selection contention are forward James Rose (32 disposals and three goals), midfielder Dan Robinson (42 and one) and defender Colin O'Riordan (31).

West Coast Eagles

This weekend: East Perth v East Fremantle - Saturday, August 11, 2.15pm, Leederville Oval

Hamish Brayshaw topped all-comers with 41 disposals, 10 marks and five inside-50s in East Perth's comprehensive 114-point victory over East Fremantle.

Forward Jake Waterman had a day out, kicking seven goals to go with his 20 touches.

First-year midfielder Brayden Ainsworth was also busy with 39 disposals and 14 marks, as was Luke Partington (36 disposals, 10 marks and eight inside-50s).

Western Bulldogs

This weekend: North Melbourne v Footscray - Sunday, August 12, 2.30pm, Avalon Airport Oval

Three goals, 23 disposals and four tackles earned Mitch Honeychurch best-afield honours for Footscray in its 20-point loss to North Melbourne.

Ruck duo Tom Campbell (43 hit-outs, five marks, one goal) and Tim English (41 hit-outs, three marks) were gallant, while Fletcher Roberts turned in a solid performance.
