THE YOUNG man at the centre of this year's biggest draft-night trade says he'll prove why Gold Coast was so astute in forfeiting future riches to nab him.

Jeremy Sharp is 2019's self-confessed version of last year's 'Liam Stocker trade' that saw Carlton part ways with a future first-round pick in a blockbuster trade with Adelaide.

DRAFT TRACKER Every pick, every player

Last week it was the Suns' turn to swivel heads, exchanging a 2020 mid-first round selection (currently No.11) and a fifth-round pick (No.64) to Geelong in exchange for No.27, which they used to draft Sharp.

"I suppose it's a bit of weight on the shoulders," Sharp told AFL.com.au.

"I was having a chat to (national recruiting manager) Kall (Burns) the other day and he said: 'We've picked you for a reason, so just embrace it and put your best foot forward'.

"I think I will and that's what I'll keep aiming to do, try and play round one and prove everyone wrong.

"It was a big trade, but I'll prove why it was a good one."

Sharp's credentials are faultless.

The wingman with a penetrating kick was one of only three players from this year's draftees to earn back-to-back All-Australian selections, and was part of WA's successful team at the under-18 National Championships.

WHO SMASHED IT? Our experts give their draft verdicts

While his he and his family were West Coast fans, younger brother Cameron has long been a "mad-keen" Gold Coast supporter.

"He just loved Touk Miller," Sharp said.

"When he came to the club he was probably playing the best footy (of the draftees). He (Cameron) grew to love the club and now the family's jumped on they've all got memberships already."

Sharp will live with co-captain David Swallow and two-time premiership Tiger Brandon Ellis until at least Christmas while he settles into his new city.

RETIREMENTS, DELISTINGS AND TRADES Your club's list changes

"They've shown a lot of faith in me and I've got to repay them a bit," Sharp said.

"I love training, I love working hard.
"It's a fresh club, new group, it's going to be unreal.

"All of us boys are riding the same wave to improve the club. It's a good way to get better. I think we're all going to grow as one."
