ST KILDA has appointed board member Michael Nettlefold as its new chief executive, a week after Archie Fraser quit the club.

Nettlefold will remain on the board when he starts in the position on April 27.

"The St Kilda board believes that Michael brings proven business acumen and a strong football pedigree to the role," president Greg Westaway said in a statement released by the club.

"He is an ideal replacement for Archie Fraser."

Nettlefold served on St Kilda's board in 2000 and rejoined last year.

Fraser announced last Wednesday he would join the FFA as head of the national A-League soccer competition.

Nettlefold played for St Kilda and Fitzroy in the late '70s and early '80s and is now a successful businessman.

"As far as football is concerned this a great result," coach Ross Lyon said.

"I've been working closely with Michael, Nathan Burke and Andrew Thompson for the best part of 18 months and they've all added considerable value to our club and helped us create a winning formula for the future.

"Michael's proven track record and understanding of how a football club operates will ensure that St Kilda grows and builds on the progress achieved already."
