MELBOURNE midfielder Christian Petracca's breakout season has been capped with a maiden club best and fairest.

Petracca (385 votes) claimed the Demons' Keith 'Bluey' Truscott Trophy for the first time ahead of Steven May (362) and Jack Viney (311) on Wednesday night.

Fresh off signing a two-year contract extension on the eve of the season, Petracca exploded as a full-time midfielder this year and averaged a career-high 23.5 disposals in all 17 games. 

The 24-year-old former No.2 pick is also expected to be named as a 2020 AFL All Australian and claim his first blazer on Thursday night.

Recruit Ed Langdon finished fourth ahead of last year's joint winners Clayton Oliver (fifth) and captain Max Gawn (sixth).

Oliver and Gawn, who also claimed the honour individually in 2017 and 2018 respectively, are the only other Demons alongside Petracca in the All Australian squad. 

Sam Weideman claimed his first top-10 finish after he was overlooked for selection at the start of the season, but 2020 leading goalkicker Bayley Fritsch (22 goals) missed out. 

A total of 40 votes were on offer for each player per match and were awarded by coach Simon Goodwin and three line coaches.

In a key sign of his increased professionalism, May won the James McDonald Trophy for best team man and the Norm Smith Memorial Trophy awarded by the club's coaches. 

Viney, who is weighing up interest from rival clubs as a restricted free agent, won the Ron Barassi Jnr Trophy for leadership in a season he was demoted from co-captain to vice-captain. 

Neville Jetta claimed the Ian Ridley Memorial Trophy for best club ambassador, while Luke Jackson collected the Harold Ball Memorial Trophy for best young player after six games in his debut campaign.
