ROOKIE revelation Brody Mihocek is in preliminary talks with Collingwood on a two-year contract extension.

Mihocek, 25, made the most of his long-awaited AFL chance when he kicked four goals on debut in round 11 against Fremantle, and has not missed a game since.

The former Port Melbourne player signed a one-year contract when he joined the Magpies in last year's rookie draft.

But his manager, Anthony McConville of Mac's Sports, told AFL.com.au on Monday he had opened discussions with the Magpies on a new deal.

"We have spoken to the club and the indications are we will look to do a two-year contract," McConville said.

"We haven't started talking (financial) numbers yet, so it's early days, but we're confident a deal will get done."

After starting this year in defence in the VFL, Mihocek, 192cm, has cemented a spot alongside Mason Cox and Jordan De Goey in Collingwood's forward line.

In 11 games, he has kicked 20.10 to sit fifth on the Pies' goalkicking table, having been held goalless just once, in round 20 against Sydney.

He is also equal second at the club for average contested marks (1.5 a game) and equal fifth for marks inside 50 (1.3).

Mihocek's emergence has been a godsend for the finals-bound Magpies, who have had to deal with a spate of injuries this year to talls such as Lynden Dunn, Ben Reid, Darcy Moore and Tyson Goldsack.

Collingwood is also set to formalise a three-year deal with fellow rookie Josh Thomas, with both parties having signed off on the contract pending official approval from the League.
