DAREBIN star Nicole Callinan has made a move up the VFLW Coaches Player of the Year leaderboard after another strong performance in the Falcons’ win over Williamstown on Saturday.

Callinan, who is still a top-end player in the competition at 39, polled eight votes alongside teammate Naomi Celebre as the rejuvenated Falcons kept their opposition goalless for the second-straight week and won their fourth match in a row to consolidate fourth spot on the ladder.

With teammate Angelica Gogos not polling a vote and Williamstown’s future Sydney Swan Aimee Whelan not playing, it opened the door for the chasing pack, and Callinan moved into fourth spot behind Essendon first-year player Amelia Radford, who continues to take the league by storm with another two votes.

Early leader Paige Sheppard polled six votes in Geelong’s win over Western Bulldogs to also close the gap, while the Bombers’ Lambert-Pearce medallist Georgia Nanscawen remains within striking distance.

Hawthorn captain Tamara Luke was the only player to poll a perfect 10 votes, doing so against Carlton to move into the top 10 alongside Southern Saint Winnie Laing, who picked up nine in her team’s win over Port Melbourne, while Geelong's Laura Gardiner also polled nine votes to sit on the edge of the upper bracket.

As with the AFL Coaches Association Player of the Year, the VFLW award is voted on by the coaches of each club after every game in both competitions.

The coaches are awarding 5-4-3-2-1 to their best players in the game from either team, with those votes collated and revealed each week on vfl.com.au.

Another 14 players attracted the coaches’ attention for the first time in Round 7, making it 170 who have polled votes across the first seven rounds.
